With the calendar year 2020 on the horizon, ESPN released a ranking of the eight best NBA games of the 2010s. And the one to top the list? That would be Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs.

As any Heat fan could tell you, Miami faced a seemingly insurmountable deficit — the Heat down 94-89 with 28.2 seconds left. The Heat were already down 3-2 in the series, and resigned fans began to head for the exits. NBA officials brought ropes court-side in preparation for the championship celebration. But LeBron James made a 3-pointer after a timeout. Kawhi Leonard split a pair of free throws on the other end. And then?

Chris Bosh’s huge offensive rebound led to a Ray Allen corner 3 that saved Miami’s season. The Heat won the game in overtime and defeated San Antonio in Game 7 to become back-to-back champions.

While less clutch, that game also featured Mike Miller making a 3-pointer with just one shoe.

Miami’s Big Three era was well-represented on the list. Game 6 of the Heat’s 2012 Eastern Conference Finals match-up with the Boston Celtics was ranked eighth. In that game, a ring-less LeBron James scored 45 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to stave off elimination. Miami’s meltdown in Game 2 of the 2011 NBA Finals — blowing a 15-point fourth-quarter lead — was number four.

Will the Heat get on this list for the best games of the 2020s? Pat Riley will need to make a couple moves to surround Jimmy Butler with some star power.
